I can’t imagine trying to plan a vacation without the Internet. Unless I am planning a road trip with no flights and no hotels, I have to use the Internet to book everything. I have trouble even thinking of the alternatives. Can you still call airlines to order plane tickets? Would that be efficient at all? Are there even very many travel agents in business? I honestly have no idea. It would seem to me that travel agents are essentially obsolete. You don’t even need an agent to get vacation deals anymore with all the online competition. Vacation planning web sites all want your business and offering cheap vacation deals is a great way to attract business. Unless you are rich enough to just pay a travel agent to take care of absolutely everything for you, I wouldn’t see the need for a travel agent. You can book your own flights, hotels, rental cars and more online and even bargain for great vacation deals.

Web sites like Expedia.com, hotels.com and travelocity.com have plenty of vacation deals, hotel, flight packages and much more. You can also get discounts by flying during slow times of the week or year. You can often find hotels for less than it would cost you if you went straight to the hotel. Get all of your vacation needs on one site. Another advantage is that you can compare many different offers from many different web sites much more quickly than if you were to do it any other way. You don’t have to tell your travel agent what you want and then wait for a couple days in order to find out what your options are. With this method you also run the risk of not being satisfied with your results, but when you search for vacation deals online, you can quickly move on from anything you don’t like. Take virtual tours of hotel rooms before you book the room, rather than dialing up the hotel and guessing what the room might look like.
